We’Wha
We’Wha was a Zuni Native American from New Mexico, and was a Ihamana, a male-bodied person who takes on the social and ceremonial roles usually performed by women in their culture.
She was very active in her community’s ceremonies and religious societies. We’Wha was the most famous Ilhamana we have on record, due to her interactions with incoming colonizers.
She was an extremely skilled weaver, potter, and fiber artist, and We’Wha was also part of the Zuni delegation to Washington D.C. in 1886.
