Ozaawindib

Ozaawindib

Ozaawindib was an early 19th century warrior who was part of the Ojibwe tribe, in the Northern United States and Canada. Assigned male at birth, she had several husbands and was gender non-conforming in various ways.

Ozaawindib was described as, β€œone of those who make themselves women, and are called women,” or naagokwe. The third wife of Chief Wenji-dotaagan, she was honored as the leader of multiple expeditions, and has a number of lakes named after her.
