Mario Martino was transgender male author and before transition was a nun. After realizing he had feelings for a woman, he left his convent and began working as a Lab Technician. He went through a dangerous medical transition, but survived and continued living his life openly as a man.

He wrote the novel "Emergence: A Transsexual Autobiography," and it was one of the first autobiographies on the trans male experience. He also worked with the Labyrinth Foundation, a facility for counseling those with gender dysphoria.
