Isis King is a prominent modern model and actress who is a out transgender woman. She first appeared on the television modeling competition show, America’s Next Top Model, after being spotted by producers at a previous season’s photoshoot. She was living at a homeless shelter at the time of being casted and appearing on her season of the show.

She now models and acts and has been a visible transgender woman on TV and in print media advertising. Notably, she was the first out transgender model to compete on Tyra Banks’ long-running aforementioned competition show, and the first model who was an out transgender woman featured by an American Apparel advertisement campaign. Her American Apparel appearance was met with some inter-community controversy, as she was seen wearing shirts which read, “Legalize Gay” and “Gay OK” due to the fact she herself is a heterosexual transgender woman, not gay or homosexual, some took offense to this representation being lackluster or inappropriate.

She is a motivational speaker who visits various colleges and is currently a featured actress on the television show, With Love, which is available on Prime Video.
