Angela Morley

Angela Morley

Angela Morley was an English composer and conductor in the 20th century. She was incredibly successful, becoming a household name to BBC listeners. She transitioned and began living openly as a woman in 1972, after struggling with her gender identity for her entire life.

In addition to working on the scores of many popular films and TV shows, she was a regular guest conductor for the BBC Radio Orchestra and Big Band. She notably wrote the majority of the score to the 1978 animated film adaptation of Watership Down.

Morley was the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an Academy award in 1974, for her work on The Little Prince. She went on to win three Emmy awards for her music direction in 1985, 1988, and 1990.
